Process Engineer, Chemical Engineer
Responsibilities
- Complies with established job safety practices, policies and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives for safe performance of the work assignment.
- Manages cost savings opportunities (e.g., coating replacement, coating usage optimization, equipment usage or replacement).
- Manages key technical and strategic projects (e.g., quality improvement, regulatory, rationalization, strategic supply, customer requests).
- Provides ‘Maintenance of Business’ operational support for ongoing use of commercial materials, addressing customer complaints, operational challenges, and internal quality assurance.
- Can serve as an individual contributor or part of a multi‑functional team.
- Understands container specification requirements and assists with sales requests, plant substitutions, engineering projects, and R&D projects.
- Participates in engineering projects involving materials such as can coatings, can compounds, sealants, and components for manufacturing paper cans.
- Provides input for equipment specifications, equipment buy‑off, equipment start‑up at the final location, and operational documentation.
- Performs data collection and analysis to support data‑driven decisions.
- Creates, communicates, and executes project plans and reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
50% travel required. This position is located at the Columbus Operating Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Qualifications- Working knowledge of engineering principles, practices, nomenclature, and procedures.
- Working knowledge of can/end materials and manufacturing processes, container filling, processing, and packaging practices.
- Understanding of container expectation/performance.
- Ability to operate and use a computer (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and basic statistics.
- Must handle sensitive related proprietary information confidentially.
- Broad understanding of experimentation, scientific method, variables, and data support.
- Strong written communication (e‑mail, reports) and oral communication skills for leading meetings, technical discussions, and persuasive communication to a broad audience.
- Broad training in a related field usually acquired through a college degree or equivalent work experience.
- Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical degree.
The annual base salary range for this position is below. A higher base salary may be available depending on experience and qualifications. Engineer I: $73,280 - $82,440. Engineer II: $88,000 - $99,000. Engineer III: $107,440 - $120,870, plus a 7.5% annual target bonus of the base salary. Engineer IV: $122,320 - $137,610, plus a 7.5% annual target bonus of the base salary.
