Job Overview
We are seeking a Manager of Transmission Line Engineer who will manage a collaborative and dynamic team working in a fast‑paced environment to design high‑voltage electric transmission lines for utilities.
The successful candidate will serve as a Supervisor and Engineering Lead on high‑voltage electric transmission line design projects of overhead and underground systems for some of the largest utilities in the country and regional utilities. They will apply NESC, ASCE, ACI, NEC, and other applicable standards in the engineering and design of all types of capital and maintenance projects from 34.5 kV to 765 kV.
Key Responsibilities- Perform engineering analyses and prepare bidding documents, plans, and specifications.
- Develop material procurement and construction documents.
- Collaborate with project planning, environmental, permitting, and construction management teams.
- Develop and manage an engineering team with direct reporting responsibilities.
- Manage client relations, proposal development, scope creation, and overall project management.
- Apply AI, automation, and digital design platforms to streamline grid modernization and increase design efficiency.
- Convey clear expectations, goals, and vision to the team.
- Manage the performance of direct reports and motivate, coach, and mentor skilled professionals.
- Resolve collaboration and conflict to achieve successful results.
- Practice behaviors supporting diversity and inclusion.
- Use business acumen and project performance metrics to identify potential risks and opportunities for added value.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and twelve plus (12+) years of relevant experience in the design of high voltage electric utility transmission systems.
- Professional Engineering Registration in at least one U.S. state or equivalent.
- Experience with PLS-CADD, POLE, TOWER, SAG
10, LPILE and/or FAD, and Microsoft Office suite. - Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
- Five plus (5+) years of supervising staff.
- M.S. degree in Structural Engineering.
- Track record of outstanding communication as primary point of contact for existing and prospective clients.
- Business acumen with a record of understanding and meeting key project performance metrics.
- Ability and passion to develop staff through mentoring.
- Willingness to work onsite in a client office and to travel periodically if required.
This position is a hybrid work position with the potential for remote work for eligible candidates located in Pennsylvania. Relocation assistance is available for candidates able to relocate to a commutable distance to Walled Lake, MI or Cranberry Township, PA.
