Job Description & How to Apply Below

Job Number: P25 F04

Honda Research Institute USA (HRI-US) is seeking a motivated quantum engineer/researcher to join our interdisciplinary quantum technology group working at the intersection of quantum sensing, quantum materials, and energy technologies. The primary focus of the position is development of NV-diamond quantum magnetometers for battery health monitoring, magnetic imaging, and inline battery manufacturing inspection. The successful candidate will work closely with external collaborators to assemble and optimize quantum sensing hardware and adapt it for industrial battery applications.

In parallel, the candidate will also participate in broader quantum physics research activities within the group, including programmable quantum materials, virtual moiré systems, and emergent quantum phases such as superconductivity in rhombohedral and bilayer graphene. The role offers a unique combination of applied quantum engineering, advanced instrumentation, industrial prototyping, and fundamental quantum physics research.

Columbus, OH

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble and develop NV-diamond quantum magnetometer systems for battery diagnostics and magnetic imaging.
  • Develop scalable sensing concepts for inline roll-to-roll battery inspection using quantum sensors network architectures.
  • Work on microwave/RF electronics, optical systems, sensor integration, and data acquisition.
  • Contribute to development of next-generation cavity-enhanced quantum sensors with ultra-high magnetic sensitivity.
  • Participate in broader group research on quantum materials and emergent quantum phenomena.
  • Collaborate with academic and industrial partners on prototype development and technology translation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Quantum Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
  • Broad background in quantum physics or quantum technologies.
  • Hands-on experimental experience in at least one of the following:
    • quantum sensing
    • optics/photonics
    • microwave/RF electronics
    • low-noise measurements
    • cryogenic or condensed matter experiments
    • instrumentation development
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar scientific programming tools.
  • Strong interest in both applied quantum technologies and fundamental quantum physic
Bonus Qualifications
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with NV-diamond magnetometry or ODMR systems.
  • Experience with quantum hardware or experimental condensed matter physics.

Background in microwave electronics, photonics, or sensor systems.
  • Interest in translating quantum technologies toward real-world industrial applications.
