As an Amazon Fleet Remediation Project Design Engineer, you will lead design projects in operational data centers that remediate issues, upgrade our existing infrastructure or add new services. You will be the go‑to engineering resource for these projects and will provide lifecycle support from design through implementation.
Key Responsibilities- Own the design for existing data center upgrades and design solutions that add data center infrastructure, capacity, improve availability, and/or increase sustainability.
- Prepare and review short circuit coordination studies and maintain the software models to match as‑built site conditions.
- Perform design and equipment submittal review for data centers in your region.
- Interface with internal and external data center design engineering teams, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team, field engineering, and controls engineering to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
- Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
- Act as a technical subject‑matter expert for your discipline during new remediation projects.
- Support construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover.
- Strong engineering judgement and ability to provide design and recommendations despite uncertainty.
- Detail‑ and data‑oriented with familiarity with design/construction processes.
- Experience managing engineering projects and engineering consultants.
- Build trust and relationships with stakeholders (Operations, Commissioning, Construction, Design).
- Manage design and as‑built drawings and documents.
- Prepare and present progress reports to all relevant stakeholders.
- Inclination to get into the field to see things up close.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- NETA or ASHRAE certification or commissioning specific education courses.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
- Experience using a variety of web‑based and other software tools for calculation and data processing.
USA, VA, Herndon – $96,600 – $160,000 USD annually. Compensation includes sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
