Overview

WSP is searching for a Senior Environmental Engineer to work in our Columbus, Ohio office, with the possibility of working in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Indianapolis, or Louisville. As a member of our Earth & Environment Team, you will support project delivery and client goals in environmental consulting.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing processes and infrastructure related to water supply, wastewater treatment, hazardous or solid waste disposal, air emission sources, and pollution control.
  • Work to preserve environmental quality of air, water, and land resources.
  • Generate accurate and concise reports and documentation detailing field conditions.
  • Assess and provide guidance regarding short‑ and long‑term risks to ecological and human health.
  • Ensure responsibilities are executed and maintained at a quality level that meets or exceeds industry standards.
  • Support business development activities.
  • Manage and execute projects to ensure compliance with established schedules, including planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating project work for large‑scale assignments.
  • Prepare technical proposals and reports, and mentor junior staff.
  • Maintain approximately 80% office work and 20% field work, including activities such as soil excavation, demolitions, and remediation system installations.
  • Act as primary point of contact for subcontractors and oversee field activities.
  • Review contractor submittals, track payment applications, and manage change orders and other construction phase submittals.
  • Travel to project sites as required, including overnight travel when necessary.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in environmental engineering or equivalent discipline.
  • 7‑10 years of experience.
  • Current PE certification or ability to obtain within six months of starting.
  • Strong computer and writing skills, proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Willingness to interact with regulatory agencies, stakeholders and clients.
  • Flexibility to work schedules beyond typical hours as required by projects.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Excellent time‑management, communication (verbal and written), and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, with initiative and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with technical and business writing, office automation, and communication software.
  • Experience with discipline‑specific design software:
    Micro Station, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, Geo Slope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS.
  • Track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Project management experience with small to mid‑level projects, including scoping and tracking hours and expenses.
  • Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on construction and design aspects, applying applicable regulations and policies.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to communicate to engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
  • Strong self‑leadership, multi‑tasking, prioritization skills in dynamic environments.
  • Ability to provide guidance and leadership to junior team members while adhering to QA/QC.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Professional licensure/certification.
  • Experience managing small to mid‑size projects.
  • 40‑Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) with annual refresher preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
