Salary Range: $30.25 to $45.00 per hour

This mobile operator position serves NSU’s Southern New Jersey Service Area or NSU’s Northern New Jersey Service Area. The operator provides operations and maintenance support to various wastewater facilities as directed and is an independent, well‑organized self‑starter who manages their schedule to complete assigned site coverage requirements.

• Perform critical testing of facility operations (e.g., pH, dissolved oxygen, chlorine) to monitor system condition.
• Conduct general preventive maintenance on treatment plant equipment such as blower oil changes, filter and belt replacements, and submersible pump inspection.
• Maintain complete, accurate, legible records of all phases of facility operations and maintenance.
• Assist in preparing monthly written operating reports for clients, employers, or regulatory agencies.
• Inform supervisor promptly of plant problems, upsets, expansions, or repairs.
• Work conscientiously, adhere to EH&S policies, and report safety hazards.
• Participate in a 24‑hour on‑call rotation.
• Engage in professional discussions of plant operations with employers, clients, visitors, or regulatory personnel.
• Collect required samples, log them accurately, submit to laboratory, and review results for permit compliance.
• Operate plants to meet all regulatory guidelines and responsibilities.
• Assist maintenance personnel with removal of pumps, blowers, motors, valves, etc.
• Maintain accurate records of gasoline, mileage, timesheets, and expenses.
• Work scheduled weekends and occasional holidays for assigned route.
• Project a positive image to operators, clients, regulatory agencies, and engineers.
• Perform confined space entry as required after training.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Hold a valid NJ S‑3 and C‑3 Wastewater Licenses; S‑2 and C‑2 licenses acceptable if able to sit for grade 3.
• Preferred: 5 years of water and wastewater experience.
• Available to work weekends, holidays, overtime, emergency situations, and 24‑hour on‑call rotation.

• Valid US driver’s license.
• S‑2 to S‑4 Wastewater licenses preferred.

40‑hour work week:
Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (30‑minute lunch).
