Ohio EPA Environmental Specialist 2

Division:
Environmental Response and Revitalization (DERR) – Central Office, Columbus, Ohio.

Job Summary: The Environmental Specialist assists division staff with reviewing, preparing, processing, and recommending actions on permit applications, closure plans, RCRA corrective action documents, engineering plans, and other related documents submitted by hazardous waste facilities. The role attends public and environmental hearings to answer questions, provide technical assistance, and present testimony. The specialist also performs site searches in RCRAInfo, assigns U.S. EPA , and maintains handler information.

Knowledge of DERR data management systems and participation in data quality processes are required.

Responsibilities
  • Assist division staff with reviewing, preparing, and processing permit applications.
  • Attend public hearings to answer questions and receive comments.
  • Provide site searches on the national hazardous waste information management system, RCRAInfo, and assign U.S. EPA .
  • Demonstrate knowledge of DERR data management systems and related environmental data in Ohio.
  • Participate in developing and implementing data quality processes, audit procedures, and reporting.
Qualifications
  • At least 12 months experience as Environmental Specialist 1 (85861).
  • Four years of training or experience in a position involving engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, geology, hydrogeology, or other comparable physical or health science field, with responsibility for compliance monitoring, surveys, inspections, or permit review related to hazardous waste, oil & gas, or municipal wastewater.
  • A baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science, urban & regional planning, or related field, with training commensurate with duties.
