What We Need YOU To Do
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization (DERR), working at our Central Office in downtown Columbus, Ohio.
As an environmental specialist, you will assist division staff with reviewing, preparing, processing, and recommending actions on permit applications, closure plans, RCRA corrective action documents and events, engineering plans, and other related documents submitted by hazardous waste facilities. You will attend public hearings to answer questions and receive comments, and you will attend environmental hearings to provide technical assistance to the counsel representing Ohio EPA or to present testimony.
You will provide technical assistance to consultants, government officials, industry, and citizens on state and federal hazardous waste regulations, treatment and disposal options, and pollution prevention concepts, benefits, opportunities, and resources.
You will perform site searches on the national hazardous waste information management system, RCRAInfo, assign U.S. EPA , maintain handler , permitting, closure, and post‑closure date modules, and generate correspondence to verify changes in handler information.
You will demonstrate knowledge of DERR data management systems and related environmental data in Ohio and participate as a team member to develop and implement data quality processes, data quality audit procedures, and data quality reporting for management.
- Assist division staff with reviewing, preparing, processing, and recommending actions on permit applications.
- Attend public hearings to answer questions and receive comments.
- Provide site searches on the national hazardous waste information management system, RCRAInfo, and assign U.S. EPA .
- Demonstrate knowledge of DERR data management systems and related environmental data in Ohio.
- 12 months experience as Environmental Specialist 1 (85861) or equivalent.
- Or 4 years training or experience in a position involving engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, geology, or hydrogeology, or other comparable physical or health science field, with responsibilities for compliance monitoring, inspections, investigations, or review of permit applications related to hazardous waste sites, oil & gas well operations, or solid/hazardous waste sites.
- Or a baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science, urban & regional planning, geology, or other comparable field, with training commensurate with duties.

Compensation and ScheduleSalary: $30.55 - $44.74 per hour. Full‑time.
