Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer

Overview

General responsibility for performing routine design of less complex engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. Work is performed under direct supervision. Primary responsibilities include applying department design and drafting standards, understanding project scope, specifications and design criteria, and providing on-site assistance during startup.

• Produce installation details, motor control center single lines, electric room layouts, motor control elementaries, connection diagrams, cable schedules, control panel layouts and grounding, lighting, power and instrumentation plans under general supervision.
• Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine simple, efficient approaches to engineering tasks.
• Produce estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs appropriate to the level of the project estimate.
• Prepare detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction; ensure calculations are neatly prepared and organized for checking and use by drafters/designers.
• Assist the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.
• Consult with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure smooth flow of information for timely project completion.
• Review and check vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for electrical/instrumentation input.

• Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university (required).
• Registration: Engineer in Training (EIT) registration strongly preferred.
• Experience: Up to 1 year of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering.

• Knowledge and application of the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
• Ability to perform lighting level calculations; size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for lighting and power applications.
• Ability to perform voltage drop calculations; route conduit and cable tray; calculate tray and conduit fill.
• Working knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, Microstation, or both); proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills; developing virtual team skills and cross-divisional relationships.

Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
