Job Description Summary

The Manager of Clinical Engineering is responsible for overseeing and directing the operations of the Clinical Engineering Service for all Central Ohio entities of Ohio Health. In addition, he/she acts as a consultant to other Ohio Health Hospitals. The Manager ensures efficient, cost-effective management of the organization’s clinical equipment.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • 40% – Plans, directs and organizes operations of clinical engineering service for Central Ohio/Ohio Health entities. Coordinates and brings together experience and judgment of all parties concerned with analysis and development of cost‑effective strategies to service and maintain organizational clinical equipment.
  • 20% – Provides administrative direction, specific to medical equipment, for major purchases of capital equipment. Assists in negotiation of service contracts with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to ensure reliability and integrity of highly technical medical equipment and systems. Works with Supply Chain Services to ensure charges for outside services are appropriate and reasonable.
  • 15% – Conducts internal vs. outsourcing options for maintenance services and repairs. Promotes professional development and training of staff to improve service response resulting in improved customer satisfaction at lesser costs.
  • 15% – Acts as consultant for Ohio Health hospitals with respect to equipment maintenance and repairs. Strives to standardize equipment purchases and maintenance throughout Ohio Health. Prepares meaningful reports for use by executive staff and regional level regarding maintenance, expense allocations, trends, utilization statistics, and alternative approaches for servicing equipment and allocation of human resources.
  • 10% – Establishes, equips and staffs department to assure optimum performance. Maintains inventory of spare parts. Prepares budgets. Assures staff are responsive to customer needs and requirements. Develops and maintains databases for tracking equipment histories related to preventative maintenance and repairs of equipment. Maintains technical library for department use. Conducts in‑service training.

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required)
  • AAMI – Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI)

Job Description Specialized Knowledge

Knowledge of the use and application of various types of clinical equipment from highly sophisticated computerized digital equipment to patient monitors. Must be knowledgeable in TJC, EPA, NFPA, OSHA, ODH, and other regulatory and governing agency requirements related to equipment maintenance.
