Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Materials Scientist/Engineer (Early Career). This position is a full-time opportunity located in Columbus, OH.

Battelle's Advanced Materials and Energetics Group is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Materials Scientist/Engineer to join our team. The selected candidate will conduct laboratory experimentation, compile and analyze data, and perform literature searches under the guidance of a senior scientist.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional to apply materials science principles in a dynamic research environment, contributing to meaningful projects that support both commercial and government clients.

Responsibilities

As a Materials Scientist/Engineer (Early Career), the selected individual will support laboratory research and experimental activities across a range of materials science and engineering tasks. Responsibilities may include:

  • Developing, constructing, and executing laboratory experiments to advance research objectives
  • Applying materials science theories to well-defined tasks with minimal oversight
  • Compiling and analyzing design and test data to prepare product, process, or materials specifications
  • Assisting in the interpretation of results and composing sections of technical reports
  • Conducting background research and searching technical literature to support project needs
  • Performing basic engineering analysis of data collected through structured work assignments
  • Summarizing results in spreadsheets, written reports, and presentation formats
  • Completing assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints
Key Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in Materials Science and Engineering or Chemical Engineering
  • 0–2 years of relevant work experience
  • Good laboratory practices and documentation skills
  • Ability to summarize results in spreadsheets, written reports, and presentation formats
  • Experience conducting laboratory work and searching technical literature
  • Sole U.S. Citizenship is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance
Compensation Data

Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $71,200 – $84,000 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
