Environmental Specialist 2
This position supports programs related to hazardous waste management, resource conservation and recycling, pollution prevention, underground storage tanks, spill prevention and response, water and wastewater management, and air or noise emissions management. The Environmental Specialist 2 performs facility inspections, evaluates compliance with federal and state environmental regulations, initiates corrective action when necessary, and supports environmental enforcement rules and procedures for the base.
The position also reviews facility plans, including military construction and real property maintenance projects, prepares environmental assessments, determines potential environmental impact, and participates in environmental inspections and self-audits to ensure compliance for facilities under construction. Additional responsibilities include preparing and maintaining project records and reports, collecting and organizing technical data, documenting field work, summarizing project progress and effectiveness, providing technical assistance, and working cooperatively with environmental personnel, industrial shop advisors, commanders, supervisors, maintenance workers, and other base personnel.
The position also develops and presents environmental training programs for personnel with environmental responsibilities. The selected candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license, security clearance, and Common Access Card. This position may require travel, outdoor work in varying weather conditions, exposure to toxic or hazardous substances, and work at heights.

Applicants must clearly demonstrate within the employment history and/or education sections how at least one of the following minimum qualifications are met. Have at least 12 months of experience as an Environmental Specialist 1 with the State of Ohio. At least 4 years of experience in a position involving engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, geology, hydrogeology, another comparable physical or health science field, or mathematics, which included responsibility for conducting compliance monitoring surveys, inspections, reviews, investigations, or preparing environmental assessments, evaluations, reports, and related documents.
Possess a bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science, urban and regional planning, geology, or another comparable physical or health science field, with training commensurate with the duties to be assigned.
