The William G. Lowrie Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) at The Ohio State University invites applications for the endowed Dietz Chair, a tenured Professor appointment in the area of materials and/or energy, including areas such as catalysis, reaction engineering, batteries, and/or membranes, with an emphasis on experimental research. The research area should complement the current research portfolio of the department ().
This position will start as early as January 2028.
Immigration/visa sponsorship may be available in limited situations, but all decisions concerning immigration/visa sponsorship will depend on an evaluation of complexity and risk. We will not engage in immigration sponsorship for this position for individuals subject to the J-1 two-year home residency requirement or who will require consular processing for a visa to come to the United States to begin work at the university.
Position Overview
This is a tenured endowed chair position at the level of professor.
Performance Objectives
The candidate will be expected to help further our mission of educating undergraduate and graduate students in CBE, encouraging the exchange of ideas, methods, and insights between different fields of study, advancing the state-of-the-art knowledge in CBE and allied fields through novel and sustained research, serving the public, academic, and industrial communities through consultation, collaborative efforts, dissemination of research results, entrepreneurship, or participation in conferences of professional societies, and valuing different perspectives.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required:
- Doctorate (academic) or equivalent in Chemical Engineering or a related field
- Demonstrated accomplishments and recognition or reputation in one or more of the areas indicated, including areas such as catalysis, reaction engineering, batteries, membranes, and separations;
- Author of publications of substantial interest and value in the field of chemical engineering including presentation of papers to professional societies and contributions to new designs or techniques of material significance in the solution of important problems;
- Experience in writing research proposals;
- Success in securing independent external funding;
- Demonstrated leadership;
- Providing quality mentoring and supervision;
- Experience in teaching graduate and/or undergraduate level courses (for current academics);
- Demonstrated efforts in research and/or outreach and engagement that reflect Ohio State's Shared Values.

The William G. Lowrie Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) is home to 30 faculty working in diverse research areas including bioengineering, reaction engineering and catalysis, separations, systems engineering, particulates and multiphase flows, colloids, molecular simulation, polymers, nanomaterials, and sustainability. We are housed in a state-of-the-art 225,000 ft2 building dedicated to Chemical Engineering and the Chemical Sciences. CBE offers undergraduate (B.S.) and graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) programs, with total enrollment around 900 students.
CBE faculty are highly regarded for their teaching, research, and extension and outreach programs.
