Project Engineer – Infrastructure
The Project Engineer – Infrastructure plays a key role in delivering complex, multidisciplinary infrastructure projects by coordinating engineering activities, supporting project schedules, and ensuring alignment across mechanical, structural, electrical, and control systems. This role partners closely with engineering, project management, procurement, and internal and external stakeholders to maintain project scope, quality, and timelines while supporting commissioning and start-up of engineered fixed equipment in an industrial machinery environment.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate engineering input to support the development, maintenance, and optimization of project schedules.
- Collaborate with department leaders and other stakeholders to ensure alignment, effective planning, and consistent execution across all project phases.
- Work closely with the engineering department and project managers to ensure adherence to schedules, including engineering activities that support procurement and timely release of deliverables.
- Monitor, track, and coordinate schedule updates and submittals, ensuring accurate and timely communication of changes.
- Liaise with internal and external clients and project leaders to determine applicable design codes and establish overall design criteria for each project.
- Ensure all engineering work complies with approved manuals, procedures, and relevant standards.
- Maintain the integrity of the engineering scope and project intent by interpreting scope documents, identifying budget deviations, and assessing potential change orders.
- Coordinate cost and schedule impacts of scope changes with project leaders and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment.
- Implement approved project changes and clearly communicate associated schedule and cost impacts to the appropriate managers.
- Verify adherence to project quality processes and standards, and support continuous improvement in engineering practices.
- Conduct recurring design coordination meetings with project teams to promote cross-departmental collaboration and resolve design interfaces.
- Coordinate with Project Management and Procurement to establish and maintain proper document distribution for internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage engineering field support through the RFI system, ensuring timely and accurate responses to field inquiries.
- Review and provide engineering input for weekly and monthly project status reports, including costs, schedule performance, and potential changes.
- Participate in project review meetings to report on engineering progress, risks, and opportunities.
- Support commissioning and start-up activities for engineered fixed equipment, ensuring documentation and standards are met.
- Perform other engineering and project-related responsibilities as required or assigned to support successful project delivery.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering.
- At least 5 years of experience leading multidisciplinary projects that include mechanical, structural, electrical, and control systems in the execution of projects and proposals.
- Experience working with engineered fixed equipment within the industrial machinery space.
- Proven experience in project management, including coordination of engineering activities against project schedules.
- Experience supporting procurement activities by ensuring engineering deliverables are released on time.
- Experience with commissioning and start-up standards and documentation for industrial systems.
- Strong background in project documentation, including schedule updates, status reporting, and change management.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, project management, procurement, and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Solid Works for mechanical and system design.
- Experience with manufacturing engineering in industrial environments, including sheet metal, machining, and fabrication.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, and control systems within industrial applications.
- Demonstrated ability to interface with customers and stakeholders in a professional and collaborative manner.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify scope deviations and assess cost and schedule impacts.
- Ability to verify and enforce adherence to project quality processes and engineering standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with material handling systems.
- Experience with abrasive blasting or corrosion-control equipment.
- Experience with industrial fixed equipment beyond core responsibilities.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems and their integration within industrial environments.
- Experience with commissioning activities in complex mechanical or industrial systems.
