As a Lead Design Engineer located in Columbus, OH, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise in the creation, development, and maintenance of electrical products. This role involves hands‑on work in executing product designs, supporting manufacturing processes, and driving improvements in both current and new product lines.
Working collaboratively with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, and Customers, you will deliver dependable and cost‑efficient solutions for electrical products that meet performance, quality, and regulatory standards. Additionally, you will provide guidance and support to other engineers and technical staff.
- Conceptualize and develop electrical products from start to finish.
- Create and assess engineering calculations, CAD models, drawings, specifications, and bills of material.
- Conduct and interpret analyses on electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical characteristics to enhance motor performance and reliability.
- Assist with prototype builds, testing, and validation processes; analyze results and implement design enhancements.
- Contribute to product qualification, life testing, and compliance evaluations.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure designs are easily produced, replicable, and cost‑effective.
- Provide engineering support for production‑related issues, root cause investigations, and corrective actions.
- Engage in value engineering and continuous improvement projects.
- Assist in addressing customer requirements, evaluating feasibility, and offering technical solutions.
- Work closely with Quality, Supply Chain, and Sales teams to resolve technical challenges and promote successful product launches.
- Participate in annual budget discussions and initiatives for cost reduction.
- Coach and mentor junior and mid‑level engineers, advocating for best practices in design, documentation, and troubleshooting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience with a focus on electrical or rotating machinery design.
- Proficiency with Autodesk CAD tools and engineering analysis techniques.
- Knowledge of electric motor fundamentals, including windings, magnets, laminations, bearings, and insulation systems.
- Familiarity with relevant standards such as UL, IEC, NEMA, CE, and RoHS.
