Remote Structural Engineer
The Structural Engineer will lead the analysis and design of structural components supporting upgrades to industrial facilities across a range of industries, including food and beverage, pulp and paper, and consumer industrial. The role focuses on assessing existing structures and designing detailed equipment support framing and foundations, from front-end studies for prospective projects through to full project completion. This position emphasizes industrial structural elements rather than full building design and involves extensive 3D structural modeling, analysis, and coordination of equipment additions and relocations within client facilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis and design for industrial facility upgrades, focusing on equipment support framing and foundations rather than full building design.
- Conduct assessments of existing structures to determine suitability for new or relocated equipment and to identify required structural modifications.
- Lead front-end engineering studies for prospective projects, developing concepts, preliminary designs, and structural recommendations for clients across multiple industries.
- Develop 3D structural models and perform structural analysis using appropriate software tools to ensure safe, efficient, and code-compliant designs.
- Design and model foundations, platforms, and equipment support framing for new installations and modifications to existing systems.
- Plan and design structural solutions for the relocation of existing equipment and the addition of new equipment throughout industrial facilities.
- Execute concrete design for foundations, platforms, and other structural elements supporting industrial equipment.
- Design pipe rack hangers and related support systems to safely carry process piping and associated loads.
- Prepare and review structural engineering documentation, including calculations, drawings, and specifications, to support proposals, design packages, and construction.
- Manage full structural project responsibilities, including proposal development, design, analysis, and coordination through project completion.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate structural designs with architectural, mechanical, process, and electrical requirements.
- Ensure all structural designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and best practices for industrial environments.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience performing full structural project responsibilities, including proposal development, design, and analysis.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- Strong proficiency in structural analysis and structural engineering principles for industrial applications.
- Experience with structural design of foundations, platforms, equipment framing, and concrete structures.
- Ability to perform 3D structural modeling and analysis using relevant engineering software.
- Knowledge of structural steel design and detailing for industrial support structures.
- Capability to design structural supports for equipment relocations and additions within existing facilities.
- Experience designing pipe rack hangers and related support systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on industrial projects in sectors such as food and beverage, pulp and paper, and consumer industrial.
- Proficiency with Revit for structural modeling and coordination.
- Experience using RISA-3D or similar structural analysis software.
- Ability to manage projects from front-end studies through detailed design and implementation.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams and stakeholders.
- Attention to detail in preparing calculations, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while meeting project deadlines and quality standards.
Work Environment
This position is 100% remote, offering the flexibility to work from any suitable location. The role follows a standard Monday through Friday schedule, supporting collaboration with project teams during typical business hours. Work is primarily performed using digital tools and structural engineering software, including 3D modeling platforms and analysis programs, within a professional, project-driven environment focused on industrial facilities.

This is a Contract position based out of Columbus, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $65.00/hr individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
