Senior Mechanical Engineer (HVAC MEP)

We are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, engineering, and execution of complex commercial and industrial mechanical system projects. This role offers the opportunity to manage projects from concept through construction while collaborating with owners, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in HVAC and mechanical systems with proven project leadership skills, a customer-focused mindset, and the ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously. This position includes periodic travel and regular site visits to support project execution and ensure quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead mechanical engineering projects from initial concept through final completion.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining budget, schedule, and quality objectives.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, architects, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct project meetings, site visits, and progress reviews to ensure successful execution.
  • Support construction administration activities, including field observations, issue resolution, and project closeout.

Engineering Design & Technical Expertise

  • Develop mechanical system designs for commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Prepare construction drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Perform system analyses, equipment selection, and load calculations.
  • Design and evaluate:
    • HVAC systems
    • Chilled and hot water systems
    • Steam systems
    • Refrigeration systems
    • Air distribution and ventilation systems
    • Building automation and temperature control systems
    • Plumbing and piping systems
    • Fire protection support systems
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.

Client & Business Development

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through exceptional service and technical expertise.
  • Support business development efforts by identifying opportunities within existing and prospective client accounts.
  • Prepare project proposals, scopes, estimates, and technical presentations.

Team Leadership

  • Mentor and support engineering staff while promoting technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, training initiatives, and process development.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and quality.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, consulting engineering, or HVAC construction.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, piping, ductwork, and mechanical equipment for commercial and industrial applications.
  • Proficiency with:
    • AutoCAD
    • Revit
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • Microsoft Project
    • HVAC design and analysis software

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • Active NCEES Record.
  • Experience with critical environment or mission-critical HVAC systems.
  • Familiarity with Trane Trace or similar load calculation software.

Technical Expertise

Successful candidates will possess experience in the following areas:

  • Heat gain and heat loss calculations
  • Equipment selection and system analysis
  • Chilled water, hot water, glycol, and steam systems
  • Refrigeration applications
  • Supply, return, exhaust, and ventilation systems
  • Building automation systems (BAS)
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
  • Construction documents and technical specifications
  • Mechanical construction estimating
  • Construction administration and field coordination

Strong working knowledge of industry codes and standards, including:

  • ASHRAE
  • NFPA
  • IBC
  • ASME
  • NEC
  • ASPE
  • Applicable state and local building codes
