Where We Need You:

Ohio EPAwants you toserve in this role within the Division of Materials and Waste Management (DMWM) at our Central Office in Columbus, Ohio.

Why We Need You:

Ohio EPA is seeking a skilled Geologist to join our team that is helping protect Ohio’s groundwater resources near waste management facilities.

In this role, you will evaluate existing and potential sources of groundwater contamination at regulated landfills, construction and demolition debris facilities, and related sites. You’ll review detailed hydrogeologic reports, monitoring plans, water quality data, and engineering designs for accuracy and compliance with applicable rules and regulations.

As part of your field duties, you’ll investigate and research groundwater areas near waste sites to assess environmental impacts. You’ll also collect and interpret groundwater data to respond to complaints and recommend actions to prevent or minimize contamination. When necessary, you’ll help develop strategies to turn around non-compliant facilities, including enforcement referrals.

You’ll be a trusted resource for local and county officials, health boards, consultants, and industries by providing technical consultation and assistance on best practices, standards, and regulations for groundwater monitoring and protection. You may also participate in hearings or litigation and present subject information to the public or technical audiences.

• Investigate groundwater areas near waste sites to assess environmental impacts.
• Plan and develop strategies for bringing about compliance including enforcement referrals.
• Provide technical assistance to local officials, consultants, and the regulated industry on effective solid waste management.
