Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller will play a key leadership role within the Finance organization, supporting the Controller in overseeing all accounting operations for a high‑volume retail company with annual revenues exceeding $800M. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting while driving continuous improvement across accounting processes, financial systems, and internal controls. The ideal candidate brings deep technical accounting expertise, experience in audit and advisory environments, and a proven ability to lead teams in a fast‑paced, growth‑oriented retail environment.

• Oversee daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal policies.
• Manage the month‑end close process to ensure accurate and timely consolidated financial statements.
• Support the Controller in preparing financial reports for executive leadership, auditors, and external stakeholders.
• Maintain the general ledger, account reconciliations, and financial schedules with high accuracy.

• Strengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures aligned with SOX readiness and best practices.
• Serve as a key liaison with external auditors; coordinate audit requests and drive efficient audit cycles.
• Leverage prior audit and advisory experience to proactively identify risk areas and implement mitigating controls.

• Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing accounting team, promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Provide training and guidance to team members on technical accounting topics and system enhancements.
• Support cross‑functional leadership by partnering with Finance, FP&A, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to improve financial transparency.

• Oversee the effective use of financial ERP systems; drive optimization, configuration, and system enhancements.
• Lead process improvement initiatives to scale accounting operations in a high‑growth retail environment.
• Champion automation efforts to increase efficiency, accuracy, and reporting capabilities.

• Assist in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis as needed.
• Support strategic initiatives such as new store openings, system implementations, acquisitions, or restructuring activities.
• Provide data‑driven insights to leadership for decision‑making and operational improvements.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA strongly preferred.
• Minimum 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including:
• Experience in large, complex organizations with $800M+ in annual revenue

• Background in audit and advisory

• Strong understanding of GAAP

• Demonstrated experience with financial ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Net Suite).
