Job Summary

The VP, Controller of Ohio Health serves as the senior accounting executive for a large, complex, integrated not-for-profit health system. This role is accountable for the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting while ensuring strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, and scalable accounting operations.

The position balances hands‑on technical leadership—particularly in complex accounting, closing processes, and audit matters—with a strategic orientation, partnering closely with the CFO, finance leaders, operational executives, and governance committees to support the organization's mission, growth, and long‑term financial sustainability. Reports to Senior Vice President, Finance.

Responsibilities And Duties
  • Provide direct leadership over system-wide accounting operations, including general ledger, consolidations, intercompany, fixed assets, payroll accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Maintain active involvement in complex accounting areas such as patient service revenue, contractual allowances, bad debt/charity care, third‑party reimbursement and estimates, and accounting for joint ventures, affiliations, and physician enterprises.
  • Oversee timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple entities.
  • Ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with US GAAP and not‑for‑profit healthcare standards.
  • Design, implement, and sustain a strong internal control environment appropriate for a large, regulated healthcare system.
  • Serve as primary executive lead for external financial statement audits, including coordination across hospitals and affiliates.
  • Oversee compliance with regulatory and reporting requirements related to Medicare, Medicaid, and other third‑party reimbursement.
  • Lead reimbursement, tax, and compliance teams on cost reports, audits, and regulatory inquiries.
  • Lead and develop a large, multi‑layered accounting organization with clear ownership, accountability, and succession planning.
  • Balance empowerment and oversight, remaining close enough to operations to ensure quality while building scalable leadership depth.
  • Establish consistent policies, procedures, and documentation across the system.
  • Foster a culture of stewardship, collaboration, and continuous improvement aligned with the health system's mission.
  • Drive automation, standardization, and process improvements to support growth, integration, and efficiency.
  • Ensure accounting processes effectively support operational, reimbursement, and financial planning needs.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the CFO on accounting policy, financial risk, and control matters.
  • Partner with executives across the enterprise to strengthen end‑to‑end financial performance.
  • Support executive leadership and Board/Audit Committee reporting with clear, transparent financial insights.
