Job Summary
As a Consultant within Finance Data Governance – Data Integration & Quality (DIQ), the role is responsible for mitigating data risk across Finance through preventive, monitoring, and resolution activities to ensure financial data is accurate, complete, timely, accessible, and protected. This associate will partner closely with the Enterprise Data Office, data stewards, governance committees, and finance business partners to support end-to-end data quality and governance processes, driving both proactive controls and effective issue resolution across the financial data ecosystem.
Responsibilities- Support data governance, stewardship, and policy adherence to ensure consistent, controlled Finance data.
- Consult on projects to assess data impacts, align with standards, and mitigate data risk.
- Monitor critical data elements and execute data quality controls, reporting, and issue tracking.
- Maintain finance glossary, data assets, metadata, and lineage across enterprise tools and processes.
- Lead root cause analysis and coordinate resolution of data quality issues with cross-functional partners.
- Provide operational support for Finance back office processes, systems and reports, recommending and maintaining financial controls and audit support.
- Conduct complex data analysis, trending and root cause determination for data quality items impacting Finance, in addition to maintaining and reporting scorecard metrics.
- Develop, plan and coordinate complex financial projects for business units and the Office of Finance, delivering on all aspects of financial projects according to guidelines, budget, impact, scope and strategic focus.
- Manage the financial data elements owned by Finance Data Governance, such as reference data, business rules, allocation rules; enforce compliance to standard set forth by FDG.
- Ensure changes to Finance data flows and elements follow established approval framework and define and enforce standards around Finance data architecture such as usage, storage, access and transparency.
- Partner with business units and Nationwide Technology in documenting planning solutions, including business case development and road maps; serve as strategic advisor to executive leadership.
- Communicate with a wide variety of audiences, exhibit advanced presentation and facilitation skills; conduct and lead training for business partners and less experienced staff.
Education: Undergraduate studies in business, accounting, mathematics, computer science, management information systems or a related field, with comparable work experience preferred.
Experience: Eight years of progressive experience in planning, designing and implementing enterprise-wide business transformation initiatives. Extensive experience in functional, process, information, and data modeling, data management and warehousing and applications integration. In-depth experience with process re‑design methods and tools.
Knowledge, Abilities and
Skills:
Accounting/finance background; process management; continuous improvement approach; project management and consulting. Experience with interfaces, reference data, reporting, allocations; understanding of SQL and other computer programming languages. Analytical and problem solving skills. Comfortable learning and using new software and familiar with common desktop tools. Capable of performing in a production‑oriented environment while meeting SLAs and deliverable. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, interpersonal skills and communication.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to understand and document complex data flows; data research and analysis with large volumes of data (SQL, Microsoft Excel, People Soft, Access); solid understanding of effective internal controls.
