Job Description Summary

As a Consultant, you'll work with investment accounting leadership on the most complex investment accounting functions. You'll provide consultation on best practices to acquire, evaluate, interpret, record and analyze financial data used to prepare financial reports and statements for regulatory authorities and internal management.

Consultant, Investment Accounting Advisor (

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinates the research, analysis and implementation of new and/or revised investment accounting policies and procedures. Leads recommendations to enhance job performance and workflow.
  • Advises senior management on industry practices to acquire, record, analyze and prepare the most complex investment accounting transactions and statements.
  • Develops and submits complex investment accounting and financial transactions required to ensure proper reporting.
  • Advises management on accuracy of all reports, forms and data provided to internal and external clients/customers.
  • Coordinates the development of actions/policies to address unfavorable financial situations as disclosed by investment accounting analysis.
  • Stays up-to-date on changes to GAAP regulatory requirements and functions as the specialist on changes that impact submission of financial documents, reports and other data, providing consultation to management.
  • Acts as project lead in the development and design of new and enhanced systems and processes within the assigned areas.
  • Guides preparation and analysis of complex pro‑forma financial data for compliance with new requirements.
  • Provides consultation to management in applying financial data and analysis to solve administrative and operating problems.
  • Consults regarding supplemental reporting requirements for company(s) and business areas.
  • Coordinates and leads preparation of complex financial information for internal and external auditors, IRS, state examiners and other regulatory agencies.
  • Provides consulting on preparation of special reports and presentations as advised.
  • Serves in a lead consultant capacity to other investment accountants on selected projects.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to Investment Accounting Manager/Director. Individual contributor role, may serve in a project lead capacity.

Typical Skills and Experiences

Education: Undergraduate studies in accounting, finance or business administration. Accounting major and degree preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Progress toward CPA designation preferred.

Experience: Seven years of investment accounting experience, preferably in insurance or financial service industries within a specific product or business area.

Knowledge, Abilities, and

Skills:

GAAP knowledge and functional regulatory requirements; industry practices in complex financial statement preparation; consolidation of companies/subsidiaries; taxation principles and impact on financial statements; investment accounting and business computer systems; company organizational structure and products and services; verbal and written communication skills; analytical problem‑solving; interpretation of financial documents and legal requirements; project management; interpretation of changes in reporting and legal requirements;

advanced PC and software skills; application of investment accounting principles to complex problems. Leadership skills and competencies may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. May require extended hours in periods of high volume.
