What You'll Do
  • Conduct complex actuarial analyses to support pricing decisions.
  • Work with actuarial models using industry‑leading software.

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Successful completion of at least four actuarial exams and active enrollment in an actuarial student program.
  • Three or more years of actuarial experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in actuarial software and programming languages.
  • A passion for learning and a commitment to professional development.
Work Arrangements
  • Highly preferred: hybrid schedule with 2 days per week at an office location in Columbus, OH, or Des Moines, IA. Relocation assistance may be provided.
Job Description Summary

Our Property and Casualty (P&C) Actuarial team members have opportunities to use state‑of‑the‑art tools, are encouraged to innovate and learn to master actuarial methodologies. As an Actuarial Specialist, you'll gain a more thorough knowledge of our actuarial functions for our P&C products and perform increasingly complex mathematical and quantitative actuarial analyses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Continually develop deeper knowledge of actuarial methodologies, enabling more complex data manipulation.
  • Conduct analyses that adhere to actuarial standards, selecting appropriate data sources, making assumptions, and developing recommendations.
  • Accurately document assumptions, methods, sources, and considerations in an organized fashion.
  • Prepare and present actuarial findings and documents suitable for technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Adhere to assigned work schedule to ensure timely completion of tasks and projects. Notify leadership of potential missed deadlines.
  • Perform peer reviews to increase collaboration, ensure quality, and drive innovation.
  • Develop business relationships across PC multi‑channel finance and other finance areas.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new associates on standard work processes.
  • Use data mining techniques to identify new relationships in data, build models, explore new software packages, and apply basic predictive modeling.
Reporting Relationships

Reports to an Actuarial, Analytics, or Risk Management leader.

Typical Skills and Experiences

Education: Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science, or a similar background requiring modeling, programming or quantitative analysis.

License/Certification/Designation: Generally, has passed four or more actuarial exams and is actively enrolled in the Actuarial Student Program.

Experience: Generally, three or more years of actuarial experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and

Skills:

General knowledge of actuarial business functions, statistical methods of analysis, actuarial models, actuarial software and databases. Proficient in Microsoft Office, analytical software and programming languages.
