Job Summary
As a member of the Finance team at Nationwide, you will support Consolidation Accounting and Enterprise Close Management in a hybrid role located in Columbus, Ohio.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate key close and financial reporting deliverables.
- Advise business partners on complex transactions.
- Manage the timely and accurate delivery of GAAP and statutory financial consolidations for over 150 legal entities.
- Research, analyze, and implement new or revised accounting policies and procedures.
- Develop recommendations to enhance, improve, or facilitate job performance, processing, or workflow.
- Advise senior management on acquiring data, records, analyzing, and preparing complex accounting transactions and statements.
- Develop and submit complex accounting and financial transactions to ensure accurate reporting at all levels.
- Ensure accuracy of all reports, forms, and data provided to internal and external clients.
- Coordinate development of actions and policies to address unfavorable financial situations disclosed by accounting analysis.
- Act as specialist on changes to GAAP or statutory regulatory requirements and provide internal impact consultation.
- Lead development and design of new and enhanced systems and processes within the assigned area(s).
- Guide the preparation and analysis of complex pro‑forma financial data required for compliance with new requirements.
- Advise management on applying financial data and analysis to solve administrative and operating problems.
- Prepare complex financial information for auditors, IRS, state examiners, and other regulatory agencies.
- Undergraduate studies in accounting, finance, or business administration; accounting major and degree preferred.
- Progress toward CPA certification preferred.
- Six or more years of related accounting experience; insurance experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and statutory regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of industry‑standard methodologies for sophisticated financial statement preparation, including consolidation of companies and subsidiaries.
- Knowledge of taxation principles and their impact on statement preparation.
- Understanding of company organizational structure, products, and services.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for internal and external contacts.
- Ability to analyze, discover, and solve accounting problems; interpret financial documents and legal requirements.
- Project management skills.
- Ability to interpret changes in financial reporting and legal requirements relative to their impact on financial statement preparation and policy formulation.
- Proficiency with personal computer and related software.
- Ability to apply accounting principles, theories, and concepts to specialized, unique, or non‑recurring complex problems.
