We are seeking a Senior Director of Finance to provide strategic and operational leadership for the finance function of a growing membership-based organization. This executive-level role oversees budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance, resource stewardship, and selected human resources-related financial responsibilities. As a member of the leadership team, this individual will collaborate across departments to align financial strategy with organizational objectives, member value, and long-term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead financial strategy, including annual budgeting, long-range planning, forecasting, pricing analysis, and alignment of financial resources with strategic priorities.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including executive and board-level reporting, variance analysis, and operational insights.
- Partner with leadership teams to evaluate financial performance, support strategic decision-making, and optimize resource allocation across programs and initiatives.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, audit requirements, and organizational policies.
- Manage cash flow, operating reserves, liquidity planning, and long-term financial sustainability.
- Oversee accounting and reporting for multiple revenue streams, including membership programs, sponsor ships, events, educational offerings, publications, advertising, and other revenue-generating activities.
- Develop and mentor a high-performing finance and accounting team while fostering accountability, collaboration, and service excellence.
- Coordinate annual audits and manage relationships with auditors, banking institutions, investment advisors, and other external financial partners.
- Enhance financial systems, reporting processes, and data visibility to improve decision-making and operational efficiency.
- Prepare financial reports and presentations for executive leadership, boards, committees, and other key stakeholders.
- Oversee payroll administration and benefits-related financial processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- MBA, CPA, CMA, or similar advanced degree or professional certification.
- Experience supporting membership-based, nonprofit, association, or professional organizations with diverse revenue streams.
- Familiarity with revenue recognition, deferred revenue, sponsorship agreements, event financial management, and membership management systems.
- Experience presenting financial information to boards, committees, executive leadership, and stakeholder groups.
- 10+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience, including senior leadership responsibilities.
- Strong expertise in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, accounting principles, and revenue recognition.
- Demonstrated success establishing and maintaining internal controls, financial policies, governance practices, and audit readiness.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to translate complex financial information for non-financial audiences.
- Advanced proficiency with spreadsheet modeling, financial reporting tools, accounting systems, and ERP or membership management platforms.
- Limited travel required, including occasional leadership meetings, conferences, and organizational events.
