Tax Analyst; hybrid

Location:

Columbus, OH (Hybrid – 3 days/week in office)

This position resides within NiSource’s Corporate Tax Department. Responsibilities include monthly tax accounting and financial reporting, preparation of complex separate entity and consolidated federal and state sales, use, property, and excise tax returns, tax aspects of the company’s financial plans, and strategic tax research and planning.

• Ensure timely tax compliance: file returns, manage payments, and respond to tax authorities.
• Compile, organize, and format data for internal and external reporting, including qualitative analysis.
• Identify and research reporting issues; provide recommendations and support adoption of new reporting requirements.
• Gather data and prepare regulatory schedules, pro‑forma calculations, and testimony; analyze regulatory documents.
• Apply functional knowledge of financial statements, metrics, and strategic initiatives.
• Collaborate across corporate and business units to develop solutions and improve processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
• Document work fully and accurately, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

• Bachelor’s degree in a business discipline.
• 1–2 years of experience in finance, accounting, regulatory, or a related field.
• Previous tax experience (sales and use or property) preferred.
• Proficiency with PC applications and functional tools.
• Financial acumen: understanding of basic finance and accounting, including statement relationships.
• Continuous improvement mindset: developing and implementing process enhancements.
• Data‑analysis skills: detect trends, associations, and anomalies from multiple data sources.
• Time‑management skills: meet deadlines while maintaining quality.
• Networking ability: collaborate with various finance departments and external partners.
