Position Summary:

The Assistant Vice President (AVP), Collections and Special Assets is responsible for leading the Credit Union’s consumer and commercial collections functions in a manner that protects the financial well-being of the Credit Union while supporting members with professionalism, dignity, and respect. This role oversees delinquency management, loss mitigation, loan workouts, recoveries, repossessions, bankruptcies, foreclosures, and special asset administration.

This position develops and executes collection strategies that help minimize losses, improve portfolio performance, maintain regulatory compliance, and preserve positive member relationships whenever possible. The AVP provides oversight of consumer and commercial problem loan portfolios, workout arrangements, collateral liquidation, and recovery activities with a focus on fair, consistent, and member-centered outcomes.

The AVP serves as a trusted advisor to executive management regarding portfolio trends, emerging credit risks, collection performance, and special asset resolution strategies, while helping ensure the collections function reflects the Credit Union’s mission, values, and commitment to member service.

Responsibilities:

Collections Leadership and Administration

  • Direct and oversee all consumer and commercial collection activities.
  • Develop and implement collection strategies designed to reduce delinquency, charge-offs, and credit losses.
  • Establish performance objectives, productivity standards, and service expectations for collections personnel.
  • Monitor departmental performance through key performance indicators (KPIs) and portfolio analytics.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations governing collections practices.
  • Promote a member-centered approach that balances loss mitigation objectives with empathy, professionalism, and service.
  • Evaluate staffing needs and resource allocation to support portfolio growth and operational efficiency.
  • Lead departmental training and professional development initiatives.
Consumer Collections
