Job Description Summary

The Director of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) will report to the CRO to implement Ohio Health’s ERM plan and processes. The Director will be responsible for the leadership, innovation, and management of Ohio Health’s standardized ERM framework, which focuses on identifying, assessing, selecting appropriate risk response, and managing future strategic and operational risks. The position will work closely with the CRO and Ohio Health Leadership to execute a comprehensive ERM program sufficient to address foreseeable operational and/or strategic challenges.

Responsibilities are distinct from the System’s clinical risk management functions.

Responsibilities And Duties
  • ERM Framework (50%) – Prioritize creation of an ERM framework addressing risk culture and appetite for strategic and operational risks, including operations, compliance, legal, and financial. Develop plans to identify potential emerging risks (market expansion, corporate culture changes, deployment of new platforms, disruptive technologies). Lead and participate in committees overseeing ERM processes/program.
  • ERM Tools (15%) – Develop ERM tools, policies, procedures to define process and monitor risks per framework. Create key risk indicators and reports to communicate changes in risk environments.
  • ERM Reporting (15%) – Communicate with CRO and provide periodic ERM monitoring progress and state to Ohio Health Leadership. Develop plans for periodic reporting of current risk state to stakeholders.
  • ERM System‑Wide Consultant (15%) – Serve as management advisor to departments/Leaders on risk identification and assessment. Work with Operational and/or Strategic Risk Teams to identify key risks and assess controls. Assist subject matter experts in creating risk responses and monitoring plans.
  • Special Projects/Other Duties (5%) – Perform additional duties as requested by supervisor. Focus on safety, quality, and efficiency as a High Reliability Organization.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 15+ years in audit, controls, or risk management with strong control framework knowledge.
  • 5+ years managing risk‑related projects; experience developing and administering risk programs.
  • CPA, CIA, CPHRM, or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Proficiency with Word and Excel; ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Specialized Knowledge
  • Knowledge of risk identification, assessment, and management frameworks such as COSO, ASHRM’s ERM Framework, or ISO 31000.
  • Experience with risk management processes, methods for assessing and managing risk.
  • Understanding of operational and financial indicators for risk decisions.
Kind and Length of Experience
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills for ERM framework execution.
  • Communication skills – excellent analytical, presentation and communication; comfortable leading senior leader meetings.
  • Ability to negotiate, influence, and translate risk concepts to management.
