Compensation

$23.28 – $24.10/ hr.

Work Schedule

8:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday (Onsite)

General Summary

Under the direction of the assistant director, Member Benefits Processing and the manager, Member Benefits Processing, accurately document and calculate a variety of benefit payment applications, including service retirement, disability, required minimum distributions and account recalculations. Ensure timely and accurate benefit administration by reviewing member records, coordinating with internal departments and external retirement systems and delivering high‑quality service to State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) members.

of Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze member records and service retirement applications to ensure completeness, accuracy and eligibility.
  • Establish partial payment schedules and catch‑up payments as needed.
  • Analyze member records and applications to pay disability benefits and account transfers to Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) and School Employees Retirement System (SERS).
  • Prepare benefit estimates as needed.
  • Ensure accurate set up of tax withholding deductions (federal, state, school district), direct deposit information and split payment deductions for over payment recovery.
  • Monitor pending service retirement, disability and other systems’ pays applications and conduct appropriate and timely follow‑up to obtain outstanding information.
  • Work with other internal departments to resolve outstanding issues to finalize benefit payments.
  • Analyze deposit and service reports and verify service credit and final average salary to ensure accurate benefit payments.
  • Respond to member inquiries regarding retirement and disability application processes, requirements, and eligibility criteria.
  • Document interactions in the member record.
  • Identify reemployment violations and collect benefits not due to the member.
  • Process member changes (name, address, tax withholding, direct deposit information) for pending service retirement accounts.
  • Review the partial payment exception report and resolve issues to ensure payments are made or held as appropriate.
  • Request and review final joint system information.
  • Add the information to the member account for a combined benefit calculation.
  • Take ownership of member issues and processing challenges, escalating to management when necessary.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.
Summary of Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in business or related field preferred.
  • Three years’ relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
