The Cadet Candidate Training Program consists of a training guide, physical fitness tests, monthly evaluations, and successful completion of the Field Training Dispatcher Guide.
Job Duties as a Cadet Candidate- Under close supervision of a highway patrol lieutenant and/or dispatch supervisor, participate in law‑enforcement activities designed to provide training & experience (e.g., traffic enforcement; motor‑vehicle & aircraft crash investigations; criminal investigations; patrolling techniques; rules of evidence & court procedures; driver license & vehicle registration enforcement).
- Handle desk duty at patrol post (e.g., answer telephone & take information related to crashes, law violations &/or assorted emergencies; respond to inquiries from the public in office or by telephone).
- Operate Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) to transmit or receive data.
- Operate multichannel radio system to transmit & receive radio communications.
- Prepare & maintain required reports.

Qualifications- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- U.S. citizen.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license with no more than five active points.
- Must enter an academy class before reaching 40th birthday.
Achieving and maintaining physical fitness is a top priority in the Cadet Candidate Program. The Cadet Candidate must complete the physical fitness assessment at least once a month and more frequently if needed in the following areas: 1.5‑mile endurance run time, total push‑ups in one minute, and total sit‑ups in one minute.
Cadet Candidates must meet the 20th percentile of the Cooper Institute Standards prior to acceptance into the program. Within the first two months of employment they must meet or exceed the 30th percentile of the Cooper Institute Standards and maintain that standard for the duration of their employment as a Cadet Candidate.
