The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) operates 76 state parks, manages over 750,000 acres of wildlife land and more than 2 million acres of water, with divisions and support services including office staff, law enforcement, geologists, biologists, engineers, attorneys, and communicators.

What we need

We are seeking energetic, passionate people for the position of Natural Resources Dispatcher 1 , , , ) within the Division of Law Enforcement, headquartered at Fountain Square, assigned to Franklin County. What you will do
  • Receive training on and operate statewide CAD console with MARCS radio system and data network to facilitate law enforcement and administrative communication
  • Serve as contact in emergency situations (monitor LEADS, contact personnel, transmit emergency determinations, receive and transmit messages)
  • Operate radio and related equipment (teletype, multi-line telephone, LEADS) to make inquiries, send/receive electronic messages, and document law enforcement activities
  • Receive, route, and assist the public and other agencies with information requests, or make after-hours contacts
  • Dispatch ODNR personnel
  • Compensation details: starting Pay Range 29, step 1 ($24.16/hour); after six months, Pay Range 29 step 2 ($24.86/hour); after 365-day probation, reassignment to Natural Resources Dispatcher 2 with Pay Range 30 step 1 ($25.77/hour) and potential increases up to $33.52/hour
  • May have cost of living adjustments (COLA) and longevity supplements after five years of service

May work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

Formal education in arithmetic and English, plus 6 months of training or experience in 2-way radio and teletype communications, computer terminal use, and 1 course or 3 months of typing/word processing and public relations/customer service. Or equivalent minimum qualifications. Applicant must pass a Departmental criminal background investigation including fingerprint and polygraph.
