What You Will Do
- Receive training on and operate statewide computer aided dispatch (CAD) console with statewide high band and 800 MHz radio system (Multi-Agency Radio Communications System [MARCS]) and data network and facilitate law enforcement and administrative communication
- Serve as point of contact in emergency situations (e.g., monitor law enforcement automated data system [LEADS] for incoming information, contact appropriate personnel, transmit emergency determinations, receive and transmit all messages)
- Operate radio and/or related equipment (teletype communications, electronic messages, texts, etc.), multi-line telephone, LEADS, etc., to make inquiries, send and receive electronic messages, and provide documentation pertinent to law enforcement activities of ODNR
- Receive, route and assist the public and other agencies with requests for information by telephone; direct phone inquiries to the proper ODNR division or make after-hours contact with proper personnel

- Compensation and progression:
This position falls under the State of Ohio’s OCSEA Pay Schedule. The starting rate is Pay Range 29 step 1 ($24.16/hour). New hires move to Pay Range 29 step 2 ($24.86/hour) after six months. Upon successful completion of a 365-day probationary period, the employee will be reassigned to Natural Resources Dispatcher 2 and move to Pay Range 30 step 1 ($25.77/hour) with annual increases up to $33.52/hour.
There may be cost of living adjustments (COLA) and longevity supplements after five years of state service.
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS
:
May work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays.
Formal education in arithmetic (addition & subtraction) and reading, writing & speaking English, plus: 6 months training or 6 months experience in 2-way radio and teletype communications and computer terminal; 1 course or 3 months experience in typing and operating a personal computer and word processing; 1 course or 3 months experience in public relations or customer service.
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above. Applicant must successfully pass a Departmental criminal background investigation including fingerprint and polygraph.
