Agency OverviewThe Ohio House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the General Assembly. Alongside the Ohio Senate, it forms the legislative branch of the Ohio state government and works alongside the Governor of Ohio to create laws and establish a state budget. Legislative authority and responsibilities of the Ohio House of Representatives include passing bills on public policy matters, setting levels for state spending, raising and lowering taxes, and voting to uphold or override gubernatorial vetoes.
Job DescriptionSummary of Position: Researches and analyzes legislation for members of the Minority Caucus. Works closely with and under the direction of the Minority Chief of Staff and Minority Policy Director.
Essential Functions- Researches, analyzes and summarizes bills, amendments and legislative topics
- Provides talking points for members
- Consults with legislators, legislative staff, and Legislative Service Commission staff on policy issues
- Tracks legislation via computer and database tools
- Provides information and works with lobbyists and employees in other legislative and government offices and agencies
- Completes additional tasks as assigned by the Minority Policy Director
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Understands legislative process and terminology
- Understands state government
- Conducts legislative and policy research
- Communicates effectively both orally and in writing
- Multitasks and prioritizes work to meet deadlines
- Ensures confidentiality while handling politically sensitive work
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- One year of relevant work experience
