Emergency Management

Emergency Management Agency coordinates activities to mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters, both natural and man‑made.

• Under the direction of the Chief, Mitigation Branch, coordinate and monitor the agency’s participation in grant programs (federal and state mitigation and disaster assistance programs) through administration of the Hazard Mitigation Assistance grant programs and other federal and state programs.
• Work with state agencies and local governments to develop partnerships with all levels of government, the private sector, and voluntary organizations to create and maintain a comprehensive state mitigation program.
• Assist local political jurisdictions in developing mitigation plans and projects that meet federal regulations and state requirements.
• Provide training to state and local officials on mitigation planning, programs and procedures, and processes related to effective management and monitoring of mitigation plans and projects to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
• Monitor the work of and assist in training of Disaster Relief Grant Employees during disaster mitigation operations.

• Option 1: 2 years training or 2 years experience in emergency management, public or business administration; and 2 years training or 2 years experience in disaster services and emergency operations; and must be able to provide own transportation.
• Option 2:
  Completion of undergraduate major core program in emergency management, public or business administration; and 2 years training or 2 years experience in disaster services and emergency operations; and must be able to provide own transportation.
• Option 3: 2 years experience as Disaster Services Consultant 1 (64911); and must be able to provide own transportation.
• Equivalent of minimum class qualifications noted above.

Emergency Management

Completion of FEMA Professional Development Series, Damage Assessment Course, Disaster Recovery Course, EOC Course, Hazard Material Awareness Course, and Incident Command System Course.

Requires travel; must provide own transportation; exposed to disaster sites; must be available for weekends and after normal hours; work may require absence from home for extended periods during disaster and emergency; must be able to respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week except on approved vacation times; exposed to dirt, debris, and impacted areas (e.g., flood, hazardous material spills, blizzard, riot, tornado devastation) which may also be bio‑hazard areas (e.g., tetanus, hepatitis).

A background check, including a BCI fingerprint check, may be required for all selected applicants.
