What You'll Do as a Traffic Safety Program Specialist:
- Research & analyze information for assigned program areas such as crash problem identification, best practices on programming used in other states, & additional countermeasures that can be used by OTSO;
Provide technical advice & recommendations to administrators regarding program implementation. - Research & respond to complex or confidential inquiries received from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), other states &/or sub-recipients pertaining to traffic safety program areas.
- Formulate & implement program policies, operational procedures, & best practices;
Interpret federal, state & local laws to ensure compliance;
Communicate policy updates to all stakeholders;
Provide technical advice to aid administrator in decision making. - Respond to programmatic issues or needs of staff &/or external customers;
Transmit decisions & directives regarding program rules & operating procedures.

QualificationsOption 1: 36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in business administration, management science or public administration.
Option 2:
Or completion of undergraduate core program in business administration, management science or public administration; AND 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in supervisory, administrative &/or managerial position which involved limited research & public contact.
Option 3:
Or completion of undergraduate core program in academic field commensurate with program area to be assigned per approved Position Description on file - traffic safety, city or regional planning, sociology, vehicle/mobility safety management or engineering, public health programming or related field; AND 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in supervisory, administrative, managerial &/or staff position which involved limited research & public contact.
