Public Affairs Intern - Hybrid

About the Position

The Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel seeks a college student with an interest in public service to work as an intern in its Public Affairs Department. The agency seeks justice and equity for utility consumers, including at-risk Ohioans, regarding their electric, natural gas, telephone, and water utility services. This part‑time position may transition to full‑time during the summer months and offers a hybrid work environment.

• Assist the Public Affairs Manager and staff with departmental work, including special projects and research.
• Respond to public inquiries received by phone, mail, and email.
• Write and edit educational materials, create reports, and schedule speeches and participation at fairs.

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in journalism, communications, public relations, public policy, political science, or a related major.
• Preferred experience in communications, journalism, government, or public relations.
• Ability to protect confidential information, solve problems, and demonstrate good interpersonal skills and empathy when answering calls and emails.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with a computer and Microsoft Office programs.
• Physical ability to lift and handle boxes of material weighing up to 20 pounds.

Position:
Public Affairs Intern – Hybrid.

Schedule:

Part‑time, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Location:

United States (Ohio, Franklin County, Columbus). Compensation: $18.83 per hour.
