Job Description
What We Need YOU To Do:
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization (DERR), working at our Central Office in downtown Columbus, Ohio. As an environmental specialist, you will assist division staff with reviewing, preparing, processing, and recommending actions on permit applications, closure plans, RCRA corrective action documents and events, engineering plans, and other related documents submitted by hazardous waste facilities.
You will attend public hearings to answer questions and receive comments, and you'll attend environmental hearings to provide technical assistance to the counsel representing Ohio EPA or to present testimony. You are going to provide technical assistance to consultants, government officials, industry and citizens on state and federal hazardous waste regulations, treatment and disposal options, and pollution prevention concepts, benefits, opportunities, and resources.
You will perform site searches on the national hazardous waste information management system, RCRAInfo, and assign U.S. EPA while maintaining the handler , permitting, closure, and post-closure date modules in RCRAInfo as necessary and generate correspondence to handles to verify changes in handler information. You will demonstrate knowledge of DERR data management systems and related environmental data in Ohio and participate as a team member to develop and implement date quality processes, data quality audit procedures, and data quality reporting for management.

Qualifications
12 mos. exp. as Environmental Specialist 1, 85861. OR 4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, geology or hydrogeology &/or other comparable physical or health science field &/or mathematics which included responsibility for conducting compliance monitoring surveys &/or inspections/reviews or investigations, or review of permit applications relative to oil & gas well operations or injection, annular disposal & saltwater injection wells & enhanced recovery projects or coal mining, or solid/hazardous waste sites or industrial & municipal wastewater dischargers, or collecting, compiling & preparing various environmental assessments, evaluations, reports & related documents.
Training & experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned. OR baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, geology or other comparable physical or health science fields, with training to be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
