Ohio operates 76 state parks, manages over 750,000 acres of wildlife land and more than 2 million acres of water. The Department of Natural Resources ensures a balance between wise use and protection of natural resources for the benefit of all. Across 12 divisions and support services we employ staff in many roles including office staff, law enforcement, geologists, biologists, engineers, attorneys, communicators, managers, and more.

Position: Urban Forester
Division: Division of Forestry
Location: 2045 Morse Road, Columbus, OH 43229
Responsibilities- Serve as Urban Forester and provide necessary assistance to develop long-term comprehensive tree-care programs.
- Develop long-term plan of action for the community, administer the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program for Ohio.
- Represent the division and perform public relations duties.
- Assist in the division’s mission to promote sustainable use and protection of Ohio’s private and public forest lands.
- Completion of undergraduate core coursework in forestry or related field.
- 12 months of training or experience in public relations.
- 12 months of training or experience in operation of computer software programs.
- Valid driver’s license.
- OR 12 months of experience as Forestry Technician (class 22321).
- OR equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment.
Must complete basic firefighter/introduction to fire behavior course (S-130/S-190) within the first year of employment.
Unusual Working ConditionsRequires travel; exposure to inclement weather, dust, dirt, insects, poisonous plants; response to wildfires.
