Job DescriptionWhat You'll Do: The Bureau of Vital Statistics (VS) operates a statewide system for the registration of births, deaths, and other vital events that happen within the state of Ohio. We are currently seeking a Health Services Policy Analyst to review data quality issues in birth and death data. This position will:
- Conduct research and analysis of VS data as collected from reports of birth, death, fetal death, marriage and divorce
- Research and identify complex business problems and opportunities
- Apply statistical analysis and visualization techniques to identify data trends and relationships
- Extract, analyze, reconcile and integrate data from multiple sources in order to ensure validity, completeness, and utility which includes querying data from relational databases and using various analytics tools (e.g., Tableau, R, Python, Statistical Analysis Software [SAS]) to clean, curate, transform, aggregate, and analyze data
- Prepare statistical and narrative reports for various audiences (e.g., birth registration system changes or death data quality issues)
- Assist program in designing and carrying out health research projects, utilize qualitative and quantitative data from multiple
sources, and develop methodologies - Use personal computer and various word processing database, graphics, and spreadsheet software to write reports, develop oral presentations, and prepare documents regarding program purpose, functions, policies/procedures, data collection, data analysis, and results for various audiences (e.g., public, legislators, researchers, local health departments, public health organizations)

QualificationsPosition Qualifications:
Option 1:
Completion of undergraduate core coursework
12 mos. exp. in one of following: health services administration, mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, public administration, allied health sciences, nursing, economics, public health, or comparable field
12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in research methodology, measurement & testing, analysis of variance & survey sampling
6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in use of computer programs/applications used for spreadsheets, statistical analysis & graphics presentation & word processing
1 course or 3 mos. exp. in multiple regression or multivariate analysis.
OR
Option 2:
Completion of graduate core coursework in health services administration, mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, public administration, allied health sciences, nursing, economics or comparable field
12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in research methodology, measurement & testing, analysis of variance & survey sampling
