Schedule & Compensation: Full Time, 1.0 FTE, Benefits Eligible, Non‑exempt. Day shift, Monday‑Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. clinic hours. Starting pay: $20.65 /hr + based on experience.
Job Description
Summary:
Assists with the provision of quality patient care and performs required administrative tasks. Students must work as scheduled without issue for at least one year, no exceptions.
Essential Functions:
- Prepare correspondence, documents, reports and other materials of varying complexity and confidentiality, sometimes requiring independent judgment.
- Schedule patient appointments and provide follow‑up and reminder calls.
- Assist with various clinical tasks that include rooming of patients, vital signs, heights and weights, and any applicable screening questions.
- Provide basic supportive patient care and administer approved medications under the delegation of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Collect and report data to a licensed professional, including any abnormalities, and document all findings in the medical record.
- Act as a preceptor for orientation and training of new staff, float staff and students as directed.
Education Requirement: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or five years of equivalent experience, required.
Certifications: CPR certified (American Heart Association Heart Saver with pediatric content) course, or Health Care Provider course or Red Cross equivalent, required.
Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal and problem‑solving skills and professional behavior in the presence of patients and staff.
- Successful completion of Unlicensed Assistive Personnel orientation, and skills verification as required and provided by Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
- Computer familiarity and literacy with general data entry.
- Ability to learn and be proficient with specific computer programs, systems and Electronic Medical Record documentation.
Experience:
- In lieu of an accredited medical assistant program, five years of experience with blood pressures, temperatures, respirations, pulse, height, and weight, required.
- Pediatric experience, preferred.

Biohazard waste, climb stairs/ladder, computer skills, drive motor vehicles, lift/carry 41–60 lbs, lift/carry 61–100 lbs, machinery, power tools, push/pull 100 lbs or greater with assistance. - Frequently:
Bend/twist, blood and/or bodily fluids, chemicals/medications, communicable diseases and/or pathogens, depth perception, electricity, lift/carry 0–10 lbs, 11–20 lbs, 21–40 lbs, push/pull 0–25 lbs, 26–40 lbs, 41–60 lbs, 61–100 lbs, reach above shoulder, repetitive hand/arm use, sit, squat/kneel. - Continuously:
Audible speech, color vision, decision making, hearing acuity, interpreting data, peripheral vision, problem solving, seeing far/near, standing, walking.
