Job Title:
Diener - Body Donation Program
Department:
Medicine | BMEA-Division of Anatomy
- Carry out the preparation of anatomical materials and facilitate operations of the morgue for the Division of Anatomy, including receiving, processing, embalming (as directed), and storing all human bodies acquired through the Body Donation Program.
- Secure samples for serology testing and coordinate with external vendors for testing; act as the point person for contracted vendors (e.g., livery service) and external programs to receive/return anatomical material.
- Prepare anatomical materials for educational and research needs for internal and external programs, as directed; assist in the preparation and storage of prosections.
- Closely monitor anatomical materials used over extended periods; maintain donor inventory tracking.
- Prepare donors for cremation and receive/process cremated remains; uphold the highest standards of care to ensure respect for all human body donors.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the morgue, including coolers/freezers, and restock supplies as needed; track inventory of PPE, chemicals, cleaning supplies, and other materials used in the morgue.
- Work closely with the Anatomy Lab Technologist for lab turn-overs, preparation, and maintenance, as well as continuing medical education events.
- Assist in the development of standard operating procedures; perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Anatomical Services and Body Donation Program.
- Minimum
Education Required:
Associate's Degree in Laboratory Sciences, Biological Science or Mortuary Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Laboratory Sciences, Biological Sciences or Mortuary Science is desired.
- Embalming license, active and in good standing in the state of Ohio, highly desirable.
- Knowledge of safety rules, regulations, and precautions related to the safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and biological materials.
- Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 20 lbs routinely (equipment, supplies).
- Ability to move/rotate bodies of 250+ lbs using appropriate body mechanics and available equipment (gurneys, lifts, transfer boards).
- Ability to maneuver wheeled equipment up to ~300 lbs.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods and work in awkward positions.
