Job Description SummaryThis position is responsible for administrative and clinical duties delegated by the physician. The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the physician with patient care in compliance with the Ohio Administrative Code. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, routine clinical and administrative duties as needed to meet the needs of the practice to which it is assigned. The duties of the Medical Assistant vary from office to office based on size and specialty of the practice.
Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or Equivalent AND one of the following:
- Completion of a High School Medical Assistant Career Technical Program, or
- Graduation from an accredited School of Medical Assisting, or
- Completion of Military Medic training, or
- Certification as a Paramedic (EMT-P), or
- At least one year of experience as a physician-trained Medical Assistant in a similar clinical setting.
High School or GED (Required). BLS – Basic Life Support – American Heart Association, DL – Driver's License – Department of Motor Vehicles, MA – Medical Assistant – Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants.
Responsibilities and Duties- Facilitate efficient and effective patient flow, including preparing the patient for the visit and providing specific services as determined by providers in accordance with provider licensure, OH policy and scope of practice.
- Successful completion of Care Connect EMR documentation skills.
- Perform necessary administrative duties that assure all information is current and updated, including maintenance and monitoring of EMR in the basket.
- Maintain and clean environment, work area, equipment, and communicate any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department/unit personnel.
- Communicate with patients and customers in a respectful and caring manner.
- Communicate, collaborate, and anticipate the needs of the health care team to ensure continuity and quality of care and coordination of services.
- Collect and monitor patient data; report patient data and patient needs as directed.
- Maintain documentation guidelines around patient chargeable items/services.
- Ensure processes and services are continuously monitored for quality, cost effectiveness, and efficiency.
- Engage in process and quality improvement activities; make and implement recommendations to improve operational efficiency and to implement new services for areas of responsibility.
- Engage in continuous study of the entire professional field, including best practices, to maintain professional competence, knowledge, and skills necessary for satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
- Complete required continuous training and education, including department‑specific requirements.
- Promote and advocate for patient quality, safety, and experience initiatives; act as a role model.
- Serve as SME/resource to the department/unit/practice in areas such as quality, performance improvement, and EMR (e.g., EPIC Super User).
- Has oversight of efficient and effective patient flow, including preparing the patient for the visit/admission and providing specific services and education as determined by the providers in accordance with licensure and policy.
- Lead and support development of standard work and develop necessary customizations.
- Function as a clinical preceptor and be responsible for training new staff.
