Description:

Chaplain, Street Medicine

* This is a Casual / PRN position and is grant funded.

Position Purpose

This Chaplain serves as a faith-based contact at both Street Medicine clinic sites, as well as with the division of Community Health & Well-Being. The chaplain will be present at Street Medicine clinic sites to counsel patients seeking a sounding board, prayer, and/or the opportunity to affirm their faith. Patients seeking services through the Street Medicine program often have a history of trauma, substance use disorder, mental illness, and/or live in homelessness.

Many patients wish to speak with the Chaplain to process grief, daily challenges, and to find opportunities to create hope. The chaplain will mingle with patients and clients at certain clinical sites and engage in spontaneous conversations while building rapport. At times, members of the Street Medicine team will refer patients to the Chaplain. In addition to clinics, the Chaplain will occasionally be asked to lead Memorial services for deceased Street Medicine patients, as well as prayers and spiritual exercises for colleagues during events and meetings within Community Health & Well-Being.
