Scope of PositionThe Outpatient Service Centers include the phlebotomy draw stations located at various locations around the Greater Columbus Area. Sites include but are not limited to:
- Ross Heart Hospital
- Martha Morehouse Pavilion
- Outpatient Care Dublin
- Outpatient Care New Albany
- Outpatient Care Lewis Center
- Outpatient Care Gahanna
- Outpatient Care Upper Arlington
- Outpatient Care East
- Hilliard
Hours may vary per site to accommodate each outpatient location’s operational and patient service needs. Job functions include but are not limited to specimen collection, specimen processing, and point of care/specimen testing (where applicable).
Position SummaryThe patient service technician (PST) performs specimen collection by both venipuncture and capillary puncture, specimen labeling, and specimen processing. The PST verifies accuracy and quality of specimens collected and dispatches them to appropriate testing locations. The PST performs training of others in these techniques and test requisition entry. The PST greets and directs patients through the lab and gathers complete patient information necessary to complete the registration and accessioning of all procedures done in the area.
The PST may also perform point of care testing, ensuring accuracy of results and Quality Control measures by maintaining equipment and instruments. The PST follows policy for chain of custody record keeping for pre-employment urine drug screen collections.
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification is preferred, but not required.
