Schedule:
40 hours per week, First Shift. This role is part of the Revenue Cycle, which ensures accurate processing of patient demographic and insurance information and supports efficient clinical and financial operations.
The Revenue Cycle is responsible for providing excellent customer service while processing patient demographic and insurance information accurately. Areas within the Revenue Cycle include pre-registration, registration, pre-certification, financial clearance and counseling, financial assistance, scheduling, billing, claims follow-up, customer service and cash collection. The primary responsibility is to help ensure the collection of net revenue for services rendered.
Position SummaryThe Patient Access Coordinator is an expert in product, process or service area (physician appointment scheduling, OR/admission, full service scheduling; pre-registration and registration; insurance verification; patient liability determination and communication). This role provides consumers (clinical staff and patients) with accurate, up-to-date information regarding products, services and procedures. Responsibilities include scheduling return or other appointments, ensuring accurate appointment, demographic and insurance information, and supporting clinical and financial needs including changes to insurance or other patient information.
The coordinator coordinates requests with physicians and staff, resolves routine and complex customer problems, and directs customers to appropriate resources. Regular communication with clinical staff, medical secretaries and product/service line staff ensures customer and department needs are met. A positive first impression is essential. Proficiency with multiple software packages (including the Electronic Medical Record system, scheduling and registration systems, ABN, eligibility, document management software) is required.
- Provide accurate information to patients and clinical staff regarding appointments, scheduling, and eligibility.
- Collect and verify demographic and insurance information to support clinical and financial needs.
- Coordinate patient requests with physicians and staff to complete transactions in one contact when possible.
- Communicate with clinical teams to ensure patient and department needs are met.
- Maintain a professional, positive first impression for all interactions.
- Utilize applicable software systems for scheduling, registration, eligibility, and document management.
- Required: High School Diploma or GED. Proficiency with PC equipment and strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Minimum 6 months experience in customer service or a healthcare environment.
- Preferred: Experience with Windows, Excel, and intranet/internet navigation tools; familiarity with medical terminology, coding and third-party reimbursement; ability to operate multiple systems for tasks, management and reporting; strong problem-solving and presentation skills; high level of customer service; ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks in a busy environment.
- Ongoing requirements: Demonstrates competency in daily functions, interpersonal and cognitive skills; maintains knowledge related to product/service line, quality improvement, cost reduction, current registration and billing policies and procedures, and scheduling policies; maintains proficiency in all applicable systems; meets mandatory educational and health requirements and participates in required trainings and meetings.
