Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical Oncology position at a leading cancer hospital, requiring at least 2 years of MS/oncology experience with Epic proficiency and Ohio fingerprinting compliance.
Responsibilities- Inpatient Medical Surgical Oncology unit within a bone marrow transplant (BMT) setting, serving a mixed acuity PCU and MS patient population
- Patient diagnoses include hematologic malignancies such as ALL, AML, CLL, CML, Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, Myelodysplastic Syndrome, Aplastic Anemia, and Amyloidosis
- Unit performs autologous, syngeneic, and allogeneic stem cell transplants, as well as CAR-T therapy
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation are required on this unit
- Rotating 12-hour shifts (days and/or nights); shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on departmental needs
- Day shift: 7:00–19:30 | Night shift: 19:00–7:30
- Epic EMR experience is required
- Local candidates are accepted
- Care responsibilities include stem cell transplant patients, CAR-T therapy patients, and complex hematologic oncology cases
- Hematology/oncology (Heme Onc) experience is strongly preferred; chemotherapy certification is not required
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply — candidates should come with a willingness to learn and grow their nursing practice
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of consideration and built into the contract
- Ohio fingerprinting is required and must be completed as soon as possible after contract signing — candidates outside Ohio may need to drive to an Ohio fingerprinting site or will be mailed a fingerprinting packet to complete urgently
- Former employees of the facility are eligible for a travel assignment after a minimum 6-month break from the facility
- Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible for a travel assignment
- Valid OH RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- BLS required; ACLS and ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, with at least 1 year of MS oncology and 1 year of hematology/oncology experience
- Experience must fall within the 3 most recent years, with at least 1 year of current specialty experience required
- Proficiency in telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
- Experience with blood product administration, central line and PICC line management, port access and care, and IV therapy/infusions
- Experience with chemotherapy administration and post-chemotherapy body fluid handling
- Familiarity with oncologic emergencies, sepsis management, and isolation precautions/PPE
- Nursing education from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program required
- 2 professional references required: at least 1 from a manager, director, or formal leadership role; charge RN acceptable as a second reference; coworker references are not accepted
