Description:
The position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in the Medical Intensive Care Unit.
This role requires night shifts working three 12-hour shifts per week.
The MICU cares for adult and geriatric patients with complex medical needs.
Common patient diagnoses include oncologic emergencies, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), gastrointestinal bleeds, neuromuscular diseases, drug overdoses, and sepsis.
The nurse will be responsible for managing mechanically ventilated patients and those requiring hemodynamic monitoring.
Advanced skills such as pulmonary artery catheter placement, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), and management of central lines are essential.
Familiarity with computerized charting systems is required, specifically using Epic.
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in critical nursing skills, including IV starts, cardiac monitoring, and interpretation of arterial blood gases.
Interdisciplinary support services are available, including physical therapy and pharmacy.
This position involves direct patient care, with a typical patient-to-nurse ratio of 2:1.
The environment is dynamic and requires adaptability to changing patient needs and staffing priorities.
Candidates are expected to adhere to safety protocols and infection prevention practices.
