Instrumentation Coordinator – West Campus – The James – Outpatient Care
Scope of Position:
An Instrumentation Coordinator prepares, sterilizes, installs, assembles, and/or cleans clinic or healthcare equipment required for surgeries, examinations, and medical procedures. Ensures equipment, instruments, and supplies can be reused safely to prevent infections. Responsible for packaging and delivering sterilized, appropriately functioning medical supplies and instrumentation to the point of use aseptically. Serves as a clinical liaison between the Operating Rooms and the CSS offsite location to track and allocate sterilized instrumentation across the Enterprise.
Responsible for procuring and standardizing instrument trays across the Enterprise. This role will be utilized 24/7 across multiple reprocessing sites, including Ross Heart Hospital, University Hospital, James Cancer Hospital, Same Day Surgery, University Hospital East, and all Ambulatory sites.
Position Summary:
Coordinate and oversee daily activities between the Operating Room and Sterile Processing Departments to facilitate efficient case flow through case cart assembly, decontamination, assembly, and sterilization/high-level disinfection of all reprocessed surgical inventory. Assist in projects and process improvement. Promote customer service and patient satisfaction through effective communication with Operating Room clinical operations and multiple sterile processing departments across the Medical Center.
Also responsible for ordering, procuring, and organizing instrument trays on a global level to service the entire Enterprise.
- High school graduate or possess the GED.
- At least one year of experience as an instrument processor or Surgical Technologist.
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification issued through International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification issued through CBSPD required upon hire, or must obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
- Computer skills: thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, TECHSYS and Censitrac tracking; ability to learn software/hardware as required.
- CRCST or CSPDT certification required upon hire, or must obtain within 6 months of hire.

- Ability to build and maintain relationships; strong customer service, leadership, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.
