Pharmacy Technician
Scope of Position
- Under the direction of a pharmacist and in coordination with other technicians, prepares specialty medications and non-sterile compounds for dispensing to patients.
- Makes scheduled deliveries to appointed nursing units to deliver medications to patients.
- Assists pharmacists with medication order entry into the pharmacy computer system.
- Maintains stock levels of medications to avoid delays in service to patients.
- Demonstrates ability to work as a member of a team.
- Serves as functional and technical expert in a given area or specialty.
- Leads and directs technical activities in that specialized area.
- Acts as a positive role model for all technicians, encouraging a positive workplace.
- Assists or leads productivity management, training, mentoring of new staff, special projects, and committee meetings.
- Complies with all hospital and department rules, regulations and requirements.
This position performs all duties of a Pharmacy Technician Senior, in addition to coordinating daily workflow, daily assignments and providing overall support to the operation of the department. The Lead provides all quality assessment and audit activities for the Pharmacy area. This position assists the licensed pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical services to patients, and provides necessary services and information to nursing and medical staff.
Responsibilities include leading the preparation and packaging of medications, distribution of medications, supplies and equipment, maintaining proper inventory levels, keeping appropriate records and documentation, and submitting patient charges/credits. This position also supports initiatives of area supervisors and managers and at times assists in their implementation.
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Active OH Board of Pharmacy Certified Pharmacy Technician registration, PTCB/NHA certification.
- 3 years of experience within OSUWMC department of pharmacy preferred; 4 years of relevant experience required.
- Further qualifications defined based on departmental guidance on pharmacy technician career laddering.
