Position Summary:

The Hospice Art Therapist provides compassionate, individualized art therapy to patients and families receiving hospice care. This role supports emotional expression, coping, and quality of life through creative engagement. The Hospice Art Therapist collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to align therapy interventions with the patient's physical, emotional, and spiritual needs during end-of-life care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide art therapy sessions to hospice patients and families in home or facility settings, using creative modalities to promote comfort, expression, and healing.
  • Customize interventions based on patient goals, functional ability, and clinical status.
  • Support grief, loss, and life review will be supported through therapeutic art techniques.
  • Collaborate with the hospice interdisciplinary team to integrate art support into the overall plan of care.
  • Document therapy sessions and patient/family response per agency and regulatory standards.
  • Educate families and caregivers about the purpose and benefits of art therapy.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries, confidentiality, and adherence to HIPAA regulations.
  • Prepare, clean, and transport art supplies in accordance with infection control standards.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, staff in-services, and professional development.
  • Travel regularly to patient homes or care facilities across assigned geographic areas.

Working Conditions &

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent travel to patient homes or facilities.
  • Requires the ability to sit, stand, bend, and lift light supplies or materials.
  • Emotional resilience to work with patients and families facing serious illness, loss, and end-of-life transitions.
  • Exposure to diverse home environments, including potential allergens and varying conditions.
